New To Woodworking

For my New Year’s resolution, I resolved to get more creative. Where most people promise themselves that they’ll go to the gym or eat more vegetables, I decided to make a promise that I probably would keep.

Two weeks in and things are going well! In the first week, I did one watercolour painting a day, and I’ve given them as gifts to the people I love most in my life. This week, I did something I’ve never done before and visited the local Hampton hardware store. My project for this week is to build something out of timber. I’ve never attempted to do any sort of woodwork before, but I want to try every type of creative avenue this year. That’s one of the perks of making a fun New Year’s resolution, I’m actually motivated to stick to it.

Because I was well out of my depth at the start of the week, I spent the first couple of days researching how to do woodworking and the different types of timber supplies. Cheltenham has a hardware store right nearby, which is perfect for me. I ended up building a little stool. It’s so cute! I had to visit the hardware store a couple of times after my first visit because I kept forgetting supplies, but that’s okay! It’s all trial and error and I’m really happy with how the stool turned out.

I’m going to paint the stool a pastel pink in my creative week dedicated to painting. I want to make three more stools before then so that I can paint them all a different pastel colour. It would be cool to have a whole set of stools that I had built and painted. I’m so glad that I made this my New Year’s resolution! It’s such a productive and fun use of my time. It has the added benefit of preventing me from sitting down and watching too much TV, so I’m really happy.
